How It All Began

A 5000 RHS Hardy Perennial plant encyclopaedia

New Beginnings

I really began my blogging  journey almost 10 years ago, in November 2013 to be precise but life got in the way and I stopped posting.  I carried on writing though. I have kept an intermittent  gardening diary since my early twenties so writing is not new to me.

This time it is a bit different, and whilst I am hoping to sell my flowers at the local farmers market, I also want to document the journey that I am making from urban landscape garden to cut flower growing on a tiny plot.  I have done a lot of research over the last 18 months and I have found that the blogging world has moved on since 2013 and it is not just a case of writing the most interesting articles possible, now there is a whole industry building up around website construction and creative writing.

Diaries I have kept from 2012, 2021 and 2024 detailing some of the jobs that I have completed.

I want to be part of that industy and to do this I need to be very aware of the content and the digital marketing of my website.

Obviously, there will be some marketing because I like selling flowers, even in my very small way, but I want the focus of the blog to be on creative writing and sharing my garden.  Thinking back to my schooldays, English was my strongest subject at school, particularly essay writing. I felt that writing a blog should not be that difficult, I just need to get my head down and do it.  How little I knew?  Firstly of course, there is the actual writing, it has to be creative and interesting.  The thing is “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” or in this case interesting is in the eye of the beholder.  How  do I know what is interesting to other people. I need to think about that one.  I also need to keep on studying and learning and experimenting.   Thank goodness I like having my head stuck in an encyclopaedia, I think that’s a personality trait that might come in useful, although the modern online encyclopediaa will have to be boosted with books, podcasts and any other educational methods I can lay my hands on.   The creative writing podcasts that I have been listening to, also said read more.  Including well written fiction.  That’s good, no difficulty there, although I do need to widen the variety a bit.  I also need to learn more about photography.  This is all going to be an ongoing process, but I am so excited to finally be on the path to a more fulfilling creative life.
